AMIRAH 360

An Explanation

AMIRAH is an award-winning artist and songwriter, a neurodivergent fashion designer, and 3rd Culture advocate

Growing up in Kuala Lumpur, the densely-populated capital city of Malaysia, Amirah Ali was constantly exposed to the juxtapositions of different cultures and different viewpoints. It is this exposure to diversity that has framed who Amirah Ali is today: both as an artist and as a human being. Being born with mixed parentage, Amirah’s music reflects the diversity of her unique Malaysian background. It personifies the idea of West meeting East, fusing traditional music instruments and elements with the modern harmonies of Western music thus creating a sound for herself that is exploratory, bold and courageous. With a warm unique voice that is subtle yet enticing, her music draws you into the quiet bravery seen in her lyrics, where she speaks of diversity, equality, acceptance and unity not only through her lyrical content, but through her music arrangements as well.

Amirah has garnered local and international recognition for her songwriting and performing. Her latest single "Tell Me" was awarded semi- finalist for the ISC International Songwriting Competition(USA) 2020 beating 29,000 worldwide entries. Judges included Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Tom Waits and The John Lennon Songwriting Competition 2020. In 2012, Amirah walked away with 7 nominations, the highest of the year, and 2 awards for ‘Best Female Artist’ and ‘Best Performance’ at the Voize Independent Music Awards (VIMA), which represents artists from all over Southeast Asia.

Her influence on the local music scene has been recognized through several nominations, including the prestigious Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM). Her contributions to Malaysian artists are notable, having composed "Ikrar Cinta" for megastar Dato' Siti Nurhaliza's 18th studio album SimetriSiti in 2017, "Kurnia Syurgawi" for R&B artist Atilia Haron's album No3 in the same year, “There We Go” for Sony Music artist Alif Satar’s 2011 album Lelaki Seperti Aku, and "Hasrat Hati" for Nadeera Zaini. Songwriting

Amirah's song stood out amongst the 300 other song submissions, which includes songs from some of the very best songwriters in the country. Dato' Sri Siti and I resonated with the purity, heart warming melody and message of the song. I'd emailed Amirah personally to let her know that she did a great job and that her song had been selected for Dato' Sri Siti's album. It was a pleasure working with Amirah and I look forward to working with her again."
